Castello di Monsanto

Great comments by reviewer, Monica Larner, on Robert Parker.com on Castello di Monsanto wines:

Castello di Monsanto, with 72 hectares of vines run by the dynamic Laura Bianchi and her family, is one of my long-standing favorite estates in the greater Chianti Classico appellation. A star of Barberino Tavarnelle (or San Donato), the wines are always distinguished by elegance and finesse.

To generalize, Sangiovese and the complementary grape varieties cultivated in San Donato appear exceptionally bright and full of vitality to my palate, with lifted, often punchy aromas that underline the quality of the fruit. When oak is used in a nonintrusive supporting role, the wines are delicately redolent of pressed flowers, wild berry and crushed stone. Like the wines of Castello Monsanto that so beautifully articulate a lean-bodied and elegant side of Chianti Classico, these offerings from San Donato are finessed and complex.
